Dec 11, 2020: Arrival Santiago
Arrival early morning. You will be met by a Coddiwomple Journeys English-speaking guide who will assist you with your transfer to the hotel. Check in upon arrival (early check available at additional cost). The remaining day is at your leisure.

Dec 12, 2020: Santiago – Corralco
After breakfast, transfer to airport to board your domestic flight to Temuco. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel in Corralco. Spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure as you enjoy the surroundings of the hotel as it’s part of Ski resort. At sunset we will meet on the terrace to enjoy the sunset with pisco sour and do a talk about the exciting days ahead of us. Later, dinner will be served at the hotel restaurant (alcoholic beverages not included). After dinner there will be an activity coordinated by the hotel (Karaoke, Bingo) or you can choose to retire early.

Dec 13, 2020: Corralco
After breakfast depart for an excursion to Navidad Crater and Mirador de los Volcano. A small crater was formed on December 25, 1988 during the eruption of Volcano Lonquimay. From the crater we will go on the road to Lolco to reach the viewpoint where we can observe the unique landscape shaped by years of volcanic activity. Later return to the hotel. A picnic lunch will be served in Mirador de los Volcano. In the afternoon, enjoy the hotel facilities such as swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Dinner will be served at the hotel restaurant. A after dinner depart on a short trekking excursion to East Millenary Araucaria. You will see one of the oldest araucarias (evergreen coniferous trees) and its diameter and height will dazzle any visitor. Return to the hotel for a briefing of the eclipse the next day.

Dec 14, 2020 : Corralco / Eclipse Day
After a leisurely breakfast, we will begin preparations to see the total solar eclipse. There are 5 sites around the town of Pucon. Coddiwomple Journeys is reviewing with local authorities and the final determination will not be made until early 2020. We will be driving about 3 hours south from the hotel to get closest to the center of the path of totality. The day will start early to account for traffic conditions and be able to get to the viewing site on time, Refreshments, boxed lunches, non-alcoholic beverages etc will be provided. The total eclipse will be at 1:03PM. After the eclipse ends, we will drive 3 hours back north to the hotel. After freshening up, we will have dinner as a group at the hotel and celebrate our time together. Disclaimer: Seeing a total solar eclipse is dependent on clear, sunny skies and favorable weather conditions. If cloud cover or rain is forecasted for the day, you will not see the eclipse like you would on a clear, sunny day. Coddiwomple Journeys will not be held responsible for unfavorable weather conditions. Coddiwomple Journeys will ensure the viewing site is located within the upper and lower band of the eclipse path. Note: The program for this day will remain flexible as we have to consider several logistical factors. Our main purpose is to ensure we get the group to the most optimal eclipse viewing site. Traffic conditions could result in longer drive times to and from the hotel and eclipse viewing site. The day will be long as we will plan to depart the hotel early morning and will not return till late evening. During the day, Coddiwomple Journeys will try to make sure we offer the most comfortable experience possible given the remote location we will be in. All Hotels in the area are fully booked, however, we are on a waiting list for hotels near Pucon so we don’t have to drive back up to Corralco Hotel. However, there is no guarantee we will find one, so please asume we will be driving back north to our hotel for an overnight stay.

Dec 15, 2020: Pucon
After a leisurely breakfast and a little later start in the morning, we check out of the hotel and drive 3 hours to the town of Pucon, known for its lakes, hiking trails and adventure activities, as well as Villarica Volcano. After arriving at our hotel in Pucon, we will have lunch. Rest of the afternoon at your leisure. Dinner will be on your own as you explore the town of Pucon and its many restaurants. NOTE: We can have a late start in the morning to allow for more time to rest after a tiring previous day traveling to see the eclipse.

Dec 16, 2020: Pucon
After breakfast we drive an hour to Huerquehue National Park where will trek the Los Lagos or Lakes Trail. Some attractions you will come across the trek will be: Nido de Águilas and Trufulco Waterfalls; two viewpoints overlooking Lake Tinquilco and Villarrica Volcano, and the beautiful lakes Verde, Chico, Toro and Huerquehue. This trail will take you through Mañío forest with short leaves, Coigüe, Lenga, Araucaria; beautiful ferns and varieties of fungi, lichens and mosses. It is a 3.5 hour moderate hiking trail and approximate 12 kms. A box lunch will be provided during our lunch break. Once finished our bus will take us back to Pucon. Dinner will be on your own.

Dec 17, 2020: Depart For Santiago/US
After breakfast you will transfer to Temuco airport to board your return flight to Santiago. Most US bound flights depart late at night, so we will arrange day rooms near the airport hotel so you can rest for a few hours before you check in for your international flight. A shuttle to and from the airport to the hotel is available. You will be transferred to the hotel upon arrival and at your scheduled international check-in time be driven to the airport.

Arrive back to the US in the morning. NOTE: Post-trip extensions are available specific to your needs to Patagonia, Atacama Desert or Easter Island.

Dec 17, 2020: Puerto Varas
After breakfast we depart Pucon and drive to Puerto Varas (5 – 6 hour drive). Check in to your hotel for one night. We will have to stay one night due to the long distance and connect the next morning to a flight to Punta Arenas, a city on the tip of Chile’s southern most point in Patagonia and the base to depart to Torres del Paine, the heart of Chile’s Patagonia region.

Dec 18, 2020: Punta Arenas
After breakfast, transfer to the airport near Puerto Varas for your domestic flight to Punta Arenas. Upon arrival in Punta Arenas, you will be met by your guide and transfer to your hotel in Torres del Paine National Park (4.5 hour drive), this trip will be a shared transfer with other passengers staying at the hotel. You will have the afternoon free at leisure to enjoy the surroundings of the hotel and get to meet the guides.
The hotel is all-inclusive and you will have all meals included and excursions are managed by professional guides who are experts in the region. When you arrive at the hotel, you will be able to sign up for a full day or two half day excursions for each day of your stay. Guides will be on hand to assist you based on your interests. Boxed lunch will be provided if having a full day tour or a full lunch if you do two half day tours. Dinner served at hotel. Note: There is a new airport being constructed in the town of Puerto Natales which the government of Chile claims will be ready by December 2020. If this is the case, we will fly to Puerto Natales instead of Punta Arenas as it cuts the travel time to Torres del Paine in half (2 hours).

Upon arrival, we have arranged day rooms at one of the airport hotels so you can rest and freshen up before your check-in to your international flight late that night or the next morning.
